Ashington Camera Club has been in operation since 1931.
It all started with a group of 13 people and the first meeting was held at Hirst School. At the first meeting friends discussed the rules and how to run the camera club and it wasn't long before a committee was founded and members voted into positions.
The first chairman was a Mr. Webster, the Secretary Mr. Stephenson and treasurer Mr. Hay. The rent was one shilling plus caretaker’s fee. Subs were 2/6 and children 1 penny increased to 1 shilling later.
The first lecturer was a professional photographer called Mr. Curry,his lecture was Elementary Photography.
